GOAT will be Toronto's elite touring team. Our goal is to build
a
team where all of the players are dedicated, can depend on each
other, and will improve together. We are looking for highly skilled
players who are genuinely committed to creating a long-lasting
ultimate program in Toronto. GOAT is not a one-year team. Our
intent is to recruit and develop players through practice and
to improve the strength and depth of the team over a period of
years. Following in the footsteps of other successful city teams,
we plan to shift the team's focus from playing within Canada to
becoming competitive in the UPA fall series. There is already
an abundance of talent here in Toronto; the purpose of GOAT is
to focus that talent on one hard-working team.
What we are looking for at tryouts:
Obviously, skill and athletic ability are a prerequisite. We are
not
looking to overload on any particular type of player, and most
likely our final team will be diverse. Another important and much-discussed
trait is commitment. This means being able to attend most practices
and tournaments, as well as showing respect and responsibility
towards your teammates. GOAT will be an elite athletic team; we
expect every member of that team to treat it as such. We also
want every player selected to be excited and dedicated to the
sport of ultimate in Toronto. We expect every player to give everything
on the field, as well as to recruit and support the team off the
field. Many top city programs are successful because the top team's
players make an effort to encourage and recruit new talent in
the city. The only way to build an elite team is to select players
who really believe.
In terms of selection, there will also be an intangible aspect
to it.
Every player brings a different combination of skills and qualities
to a team; all of those qualities have to be weighed and taken
into
account when selecting a team. We encourage everyone, especially
younger players, to come out and tryout for GOAT. Of course, not
everyone will see equal playing time at tournaments, but at the
same time, we will not select any players who we are not comfortable
putting on the field. Regardless of your role at the beginning
of the season, we guarantee an excellent supportive learning environment
for newer players, as they will be the future of GOAT.
